History

The HEAL Foundation grew out of a discussion between four friends while driving across the Arizona desert. Each of the four had spent a number of years in underdeveloped countries serving in various capacities, and their experiences had left indelible impressions upon them. Each felt a keen desire and obligation to use the knowledge and resources presently at his disposal in an effort to improve conditions for those in disadvantaged countries. They began researching and sifting through various methods and areas of development attempting to identify which might provide the most beneficial change. They wanted to find a method that would yield growth long after they had gone. They decided that health and literacy fit the bill.

HEAL then became incorporated in the state of Utah and granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS. By this time, plans for HEAL's first project were already underway and partnerships with other organizations were formed. These partnerships aided tremendously in getting the whole endeavor off the ground.

The HEAL Foundation has seen wonderful growth and success in India. It continues to realize its goals and to partner with similar-minded organizations to make ideas realities and lives better.
