2003
In 2003, The HEAL Foundation worked in partnership with Crystal Springs, Open Arms, and Hope Hospital in Bapatla and Kakinada, two cities in Andrah Pradesh, India. HEAL hired and trained educators to teach health principles in hospitals, schools and communities.
This project came as a result of feedback HEAL received from doctors and nurses in these communities. They expressed concern with their inability to spend sufficient time with patients. Patients were often treated and released without properly understanding their diagnosis or prescription. Additionally, doctors thought many of the illnesses could be prevented through proper education and hygiene.
HEAL focused on this need, writing manuals and providing the instruction and organization to sustain a year-round program of health education. Our educators spent the following year teaching full time in rural areas both in and around Kakinada and Bapatla.
