Hyderabad

HEAL chose Hyderabad as a city in which it could easily expand its program. So, in July and August of 2004, HEAL members interviewed a selection of qualified applicants and hired Marry and Vasantha to work in the slums of Hyderabad. Marry and Vasantha were previously employed at an Indian NGO and both were completing degree courses in nursing. Over the next three weeks, HEAL trained Marry and Vasantha five days a week. Their objective would be to visit slums, build rapport with the people, and organize support groups wherein specific needs would be addressed and access could be given to the resources necessary to relieve these needs.
