Tsunami Relief in Andhra Pradesh, India
HEAL quickly responded to the disaster in Southeast Asia thanks to generous donors and Meera Khader, HEAL’s manager in Hyderabad. Three days after the tsunami hit, Meera visited villages in the West Godawari and Krishna Districts of Andhra Pradesh with SAPID , her own non-profit organization, to assess the damages and identify urgent needs. She relayed a list to HEAL detailing the costs of helping approximately 480 families in twelve villages along the battered coastline. HEAL raised the money and sent it to Meera for the purchase of clothing, bedding and blankets, and materials for repairing homes. Most of the aid, however, was used to buy new nets and make boat repairs so that fishermen in the coastal villages could get back to work.

On behalf of the victims, HEAL gratefully acknowledges those who generously supported this effort to aid these families. For a comparatively small sacrifice, hundreds of lives were positively affected.
